The day started out like any other. I got up from my bunk and said hello to my fellow bunkmates. As I prepared to get my morning shower I had a weird feeling. There was something unsettling in the back of my head. I pushed that to the side and continued about my day. After my shower I put on my desert cams and headed out the door to prep my .50 caliber machine gun for convoy duty. There were nine of us on this convoy duty. We were supposed to be transporting high value supplies from Baghdad to northern Iraq. I usually hate this trip because there is a much higher chance of being engaged by insurgents.
