Part 9 – “Nothing Changes”
Nothing had changed at all between day 84 and day 97, other than how James had gotten flogged much more.
This was not James’ decision, of course.
In general, flogging seemed to permeate his life. He now had no more truly free “free time.” It is always either training, eating, or meals.
So much flogging, so much it no longer hurts.
He once tried to ask Arnold what was up with all the flogging, but he got even more flogging as a response.
Jokingly, he wondered when he would receive lashes of a whip as a reward, though he would keep this to himself. Fate is easy enough to tempt, and this life was hard enough.
He paid the activities of the day no mind. Sure, they were intense and painful, but not fun. Constantly being supervised, working out, and getting extremely frustrated were his life.
Day 98, barber day.
Oh, now that was different!
Compared to the other stuff, this was heaven, if not a tad awkward after the last barber session.
Still better than getting beaten, though. Having a haircut and sustaining a conversation with the barber is easier.
Secured in a most familiar kneeling position, James eagerly awaited his haircut. Sure enough, Russell was there as the blindfold came off, but the gag stayed.
He looked rather somber, as if continuing on from the end of their last session.
“So, my story change anything?”
As best he could, James shook his head. He did not care if he was an ex-convict. The truth was, here, where every other person let loose their demons, Russell atoned for them, or at least he made sure his did not hurt anyone.
“Nothing changes here, okay?”
A nod.
With that agreed upon, only then did Russell remove James’ gag.
When the haircut and the manicure was done, Russell moved things along and started the therapy portion of his session, with James blindfolded as always.
“Russell, Arnold flogs me for no reason and he won’t let me talk to him anymore. If I try I just get flogged again.
“I’m scared.”
Russell was quiet for a moment, evidently in contemplation.
A smile came on his face. Although James could not see it, he heard it in his voice.
“How ‘bout I do you a favour? Be a good boy, say yes.”
“Yes, sir.”
A slap on James’ face.
“Stupid boy, I told you not to call me sir when we’re talking like this.”
“Sorry s- Russell.”
“Alright, I’ll see what I can do.”
James left the barber’s dungeon, eager to see how things would play out.

For those of us who fantasize about being taken prisoner for an extended period of time the reality is the monotony of marking time. It’s often boring and mentally difficult to process with or without a physically challenging component in place. The realization for James that the fantasy he sought was better than the reality of what he is getting makes one think of the “Be careful what you with for” comment. Great story! I’m enjoying each and every chapter.
