Dan slowly pulled the sheets off the bed. “You need to get up, lad.” He didn’t realise Todd’s cum stains and hard-on were about to be exposed underneath. Then there was a voice downstairs.

“Dan! You in?”

“Is that you Pat?” Dan shouted. He turned and made his way out of the bedroom. “Todd, sort yourself out, lad.”

“Hey, sleeping beauty.” Dan playfully kicked the bed. Todd jerked from his sleep and rubbed his eyes – in front of him Dan was performing leg stretches in a running singlet and sprinter shorts. He bounced around – Todd thought he was too energetic. “I’m off for a run. Sort your kit – there’ll be an inspection when I’m back.”

Todd had a slow start to the day. In the shower, he heard Dan returning from his run, and join him in the bathroom. “You not finished, lad?”

Todd stomped up the stairs of the cottage, his head narrowly missing a wooden beam on the way up. The ceilings were low enough to be a hazard. There was a small, cold dilapidated bathroom, and two bedrooms.

“In here.” Dan gestured by swinging his arm into the smaller bedroom.

It was basic. Vinyl grey floor, beige walls, and little furniture – just a single metal framed bed, wooden chair, and empty bookcase. The sloping roof and wooden beams reduced the headroom and while there was some natural light, it came from a small, draughty window at waist height.

Todd scanned the room. IT. WAS. FUCKING. CRAMPED.

He’d left the train station behind, the town was long gone, and he was now passing flat green fields with hills bubbling up in the distance. The road twisted and narrowed into tiny lanes and high-sided hedgerows. His head knocked against the backseat window, jolting him out of his sleepy state. He was convinced the driver was deliberately trying to hit EVERY. FUCKING. POTHOLE.

Wiping condensation from the window, he saw bursts of green through the trees. Fields dotted with sheep, and barns, and white walled cottages. But it was mostly wet, and miserable.
