Authentic suit of armor helmets
Here are a few more pictures from “The Last Night,” an exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art running until January 5, 2020. These pictures are of various helmets that are on display, part of the various suits of armor.

Suit of armor with metal codpiece
Shown here is foot combat armor made for Giuliano de’ Medici, as a gift from Maximilian I, on display as part of “The Last Night,” an exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art running until January 5, 2020. This armor dates back to the year 1515. It includes a metal codpiece, which, according to the museum, is a rare thing to have survived all this time!
You can hear an audio description of the armor shown here — and the codpiece — by clicking here.

Captured – Chapter 4
By Rubrpig
After a week in residence, the executions of the men who refused to swear loyalty to Earl Robert were dragged out of the dungeons of Wessex Castle and taken to the scaffolds and hung. After the last traitor was hanged, the Earl’s men heard approaching horses and they immediately raised the alarm and the castle garrison took their positions on the walls of the castle.
A group of 4 riders rode up to the drawbridge, and demanded entry in the name of King Henry. One of the riders wore the livery of a King’s messenger and the captain of the guard ordered the gates opened so the men could enter the castle. The King’s messenger and his guards rode into the courtyard and dismounted quickly and demanded to be taken to the presence of the Earl. The messenger was escorted to the great hall where the Earl had just finished eating.
The messenger approached and handed over the message which the Earl opened and began reading. The message was from his King and informed him that he could expect the King and his men to arrive at the castle to break their journey for several days prior to resuming their progress to London where the King would be crowned at Westminster Abbey.
Captured – Chapter 3

Thomas stood breathing heavily trying to get as much air as he could through the breath slits in his war helm as he thought about the news he had just been given. He stared through the vision slit in his helm and watched the hall erupt with cheers and congratulations to the new Earl. The celebration went on through the night and he continued to stand behind the Earl’s chair silently.
Finally, the Earl stood up unsteadily on his feet as he had been drinking steadily and turned to the traitor and told him to follow. The two men left the hall and the Earl climbed the stairs to his private chamber with the armoured figure following slowly behind, the armor clanging softly and the chains rattling on the floor as he climbed the stairs behind Earl Robert. Reaching his private chamber he turned and pointed to a straw pallet on the floor beside the door and told the traitor that is where he was to sleep.
He was to sleep outside of his Lord’s chamber and protect him from harm. The armoured traitor responded by saying Yes My Lord. Earl Thomas entered his chamber and slammed the door and Thomas stood quietly and then walked over and knelt slowly and got onto the pallet and fell asleep exhausted from what had been done to him that day.
