The Leather Journal interviews Jack Fritscher

The Leather Journal has published a really good interview with Jack Fritscher — a writer, journalist, photographer and longtime editor of Drummer magazine. To read the interview (recommended!) click the picture directly below to be taken to The Leather Journal:

For those of you younger guys, Drummer magazine was THE PLACE to go for gay men into kink, back in the pre-internet days. One of Jack’s many books is Leather Walk of Fame, a look back at Drummer magazine.

Also you can find his many books — both fiction and non-fiction — at Amazon.

NOTE: Leather Walk of Fame is forthcoming later in 2015. However, Mr. Fritscher has posted the text of that book, plus the texts of all his books, as a “Leather Community Service” to give free access to all — so that no one has to pay anything to read or write about their leather history.

You can find these books and much more about Jack Fritscher at his official website.

‘Prisoner of War’ by John M. McGrath

This book, ‘Prisoner of War — Six Years in Hanoi’ by John M. McGrath, describes in great detail the author’s experience being held in captivity during the Vietnam War. It includes dozens of illustrations by the author.

When I purchased a used copy online, I found it had been autographed by the author along with additional illustrations and personal messages. I can only surmise that the recipient of the book died and a family member, not realizing what it was, sold it online.

‘Man Alone’ by William Doyle

I just finished this book, ‘Man Alone,’ by William Doyle. As usual when I read a book like this, I was not able to put it down.

ManAlone

It’s out of print, but I found a used copy online. It’s written in the first person by an inmate at McGraw prison, although I am not able to find where that prison is (or was) by doing a google search. The book was published in the 1950s, so it’s possible the prison was closed. He does not say where the prison is, but he does refer to a hot climate, so it must have been in the South or West.

It was a fascinating read, but I’m not completely sure if this is a true story or not. It sounds realistic for the most part, except that some of the guy’s self-described actions during a prison break, where he saves the lives of numerous guards and fellow inmates, and later his refusal to ask for a blanket when he is kept in isolation, sound a bit too heroic to be believable. But maybe.

Metalbond mail: A question about the real-life implications of slavery

Dear Metal,

Do you know of a resource Masters and potential slaves can access that talks about some of the FAQs on entering into a full-time position as a slave? In particular, something that might help a slave with health care, financial planning, release from slavery, immigration status issues, etc.? I often have subs who want full-time slavery under My control, but they fail to comprehend life beyond the sexual fantasy.

Metal responds,

Wow, that’s a very good question. I would start with an organization like Masters and slaves Together (MAsT), where you might find some helpful information:

There are also a couple of books out there that go beyond the “sexual fantasy” of slavery and talk about men living the lifestyle 24/7.

Dear Raven and Joshua by Raven Kaldera and his slave Joshua Tenpenny. These guys have been together more than 10 years and know what they’re talking about. It’s in Q&A format.

There’s also Ask the Man Who Owns Him by david stein with David Schachter. Unlike all other M/s books, this one gives you more than the opinions of one or two people; instead, it describes 16 different long-term M/s relationships, plus Mr. Schachter’s, in the participants’ own words.

Naked Boys … Reading?

Yes … READING!

I bed David Stein would eat this up. It’s going to be an evening of great literature, read to the audience by five hot, naked leathermen! Race Bannon, Richard Bolingbroke, Justin Hall, Tim Shaw and Jake Wetmore will take to the stage — in the buff — to read literature from John Rechy and Tom Gunn to Allen Ginsberg and Dr. Seuss in this fundraiser for AIDS Emergency Fund and Immune Enhancement Project.

New Book! The Defeat of Paragon Lad

Check out this new erotic novel, The Defeat of Paragon Lad, by Todd Fleming. It’s described by the publishers as “gay, superhero, domination erotica.”

The-Defeat-of-Paragon-Lad-2

Here is a quick description of the novel:

A superhero appeared in Twin City and started cleaning up the town. Two years later, the mob boss Countertron is at his wit’s end and allies with a new player in town by the name of Shadowfox. Shadowfox also wants to take down the hero, but in an entirely different way. And as these three battle, Twin City’s fate lies in the balance.

Meeting author Pablo Greene

World Without Daylight’ is the latest book in Pablo Greene’s ‘How to Kill a Superhero’ series, and the author held a meet-and-greet this weekend in New York City. I attended, along with author david stein, Angson (who came from Toronto!), Matt and others.

It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with Pablo and these other kinky guys. If you missed the event, you can still purchase the book in paperback or for a device. Also check out the free sample chapters of both books that Pablo was kind enough to share in the Prison Library.

How to Kill a Superhero:
 World Without Daylight

By Pablo Greene

SEX, DEATH, AND SUNSHINE

I tasted freedom in this lost edge of the world, and the shadows cast by the sun reminded me that I hadn’t seen another human being in these hills for weeks.

My journey threatened to destroy my body, but I enjoyed its hardship and how it toughened the skin on the soles of my feet, how it built calluses in places they had never existed before.
